                            Prepare for Your Spa Experience

To make a home-spa day a reality, plan ahead by scheduling a couple of hours when you will not be distracted by telephones calls, other family-members or work-related activities.  If possible, plan an entire day for the ultimate regenerative experience.  If need be, schedule it as you would any appointment and look forward to your personal treat.  keep that appointment.

Included in the scheduling of the home-spa sabbatical be sure to add a good book (or plan simple pleasures as reading poetry, writing or other creative projects), a long relaxing walk, yoga or meditation time.  You may want to include treats such as your favorite music, flowers, candles, your favorite herbal teas or healthy beverages, and seasonal fruit to make the experience really enjoyable.

Gather all the ingredients for your spa experience the day before.  During your spa day, eat fresh, light and healthful foods to help you feel and look your best.  Drink plenty of fluids, including pure water with slices of lemons, limes or oranges and sprigs of mint or lemon balm.  Of course, the same essential oils can be used - - - and a really good one is a blend called Citrus Fresh.  Make a pot of delicious herbal tea, such as peppermint, lemongrass, or chamomile, to sip throughout the day.

Enjoy Shiny, Healthy Hair and Skin

A simple scalp massage with essential oils increases circulation and helps keep the hair follicles healthy.  Deep-conditioning treatments restore moisture to hair and provide shine and softness.

               Rosemary Scalp Massage

Mix 1 Tablespoon witch hazel with 3 drops rosemary essential oil and 5 drops lavender essential oil.  Apply to your scalp, using the pads of your fingers to vigorously massage your scalp for a minute or two.  Do not rinse your hair afterward.

               Honey Hair Mask

Mix 3 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon almond oil (or the V-6 Mixing Oil), 3 drops rosemary essential oil and 3 drops lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) essential oil.
Dampen your hair with warm water and massage the conditioning treatment onto your hair and scalp.  Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave the conditioning treatment on for 30 minutes or longer.  Rinse with warm water, then shampoo and condition as usual.
NOTE:  When shampooing hair a real treat is using any of the three essential oil shampoos and conditioners.  The LemonSage is wonderful - - - and smells like fresh lemon meringue pie!

Healthy Glowing Facial Skin-Care

The purpose of a facial is to improve circulation, deep-cleanse, and smooth and moisture the skin.  A complete facial includes a cleansing stream, exfoliation, mask, toner and moisturizer.  Our A.R.T. Skin Care System, Essential Beauty Serums, Satin Facial Scrub (mint), Boswellia Wrinkle Cream, Orange Blossom Facial Wash, Rose Ointment, Sandalwood Moisture Cream, Wolfberry Eye Cream  have most all items you could incorporate into your spa day without all the preparation, but in the event you wish to make them:

Deep-Cleansing Herbal Facial Steam

What you need:  Large pot with lid, purified water, herbs and a towel.

An herbal facial steam deep-cleanses pores, brings a healthy glow to your complexion and helps replenish moisture in the skin.  Choose herbs that are beneficial to your skin type.

To prepare a facial steam, place 2 quarts of water and 3 tablespoons of dried herbs into a large covered pot.  Bring almost to a boil and remove from heat, and steep for 10 minutes.  Place the pot on the table, remove the lid and with a towel tent over your head and steaming pot, taking care not to burn yourself.  Stay under the tent for 10 minutes to allow perspiration to deep-cleanse your skin.  Follow with the Skin-Refining Exfoliation.

                Skin-Refining Exfoliation

What you will need:  Cleansing grains from rolled oats, crushed almonds and rose water.

Cleansing grains gently exfoliate the top layer of dead skin and leave your skin silky smooth.  To make the cleansing grains combine 1 tablespoon finely ground rolled oats, 1 teaspoon finely ground almonds (ground separately in a coffee grinder will do), and mix with rose water to make a paste.  gently massage the mixture onto a dampened face and then rinse with warm water.  Follow with the Strawberry-Rosemary Rejuvenating Facial Mask, the Honey-Lavender Moisturizing Mask, or both.

          Strawberry-Rosemary Rejuvenating Facial Mask

What you will need:  Fresh Strawberries, plain yogurt, rosemary essential oil, lavender essential oil and  clay (the very best clay is calcium benonite clay and it is available from ThePowerHour by calling 1-877-817-9829 or www.thepowerhour.com).

Strawberries and yogurt contain natural alpha-hydroxy acids that help soften and refine skin texture.  Rosemary and lavender essential oils rejuvenate skin by stimulating cellular renewal.

Mash one large fresh strawberry with 1 tablespoon of yogurt. Add one drop rosemary essential oil and 2 drops of lavender essential oil and 1 teaspoon clay.  If you have dry skin, add 1/2 teaspoon of finely ground almonds or jojoba oil to the mixture.

Apply the mask to freshly cleansed skin.  Leave in place for 20 minutes or more, and then remove with a warm-wet washcloth.  Follow with the Honey-Lavender Moisturizing Mask or a moisturizer.

              Honey-Lavender Moisturizing Mask

What you will need:  Honey and Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)  Essential Oil.

Honey purifies, heals and moisturizes the skin.  lavender essential oil is soothing and balancing for all skin types.

Mix 1 tablespoon of honey with 3 drops of lavender essential oil.  Smooth onto damp skin.  Leave on for 15 minutes or longer, and then remove with a warm, wet washcloth.  Follow with Aromatherapy Skin Toner.

              Aromatherapy Skin Toner

What you will need:  Essential Oils for your skin type, witch hazel extract, purified water and a small spray bottle.

An aromatherapy skin toner smoothes and refreshes skin and temporarily tightens pores.  Mix 1 teaspoon of witch hazel extract and 10 drops of an essential oil (or combination of oils) beneficial for your skin type in a small spray bottle.  Fill the bottle 94 ounces) with purified water.  Shake wee, and spray skin lightly after cleansing and before moisturizing.

               Nourishing Facial Oil

What you will need:  Jojoba oil, essential oil for your skin type and a small glass dropper bottle.   NOTE: The pre-made
Essential Beauty Serums from Young Living are actually perfect at this stage of your spa treatment.

Mix 1 ounce of jojoba oil with 10 drops of an essential oil (or combination of oils) beneficial for your skin type in the glass dropper bottle.  After cleansing and toning your skin, gently massage a few drops of the facial oil onto your damp skin.

The Herbal Bath

Baths are an essential part of the spa experience and are easy to duplicate at home.  One of the best products to have on hand is the Bath Gel Base - - this makes every bath a spa experience.  While running the water for your bath, take a few minutes to brush your skin with a natural bristle body brush.  this gentle massage stimulates circulation and smoothes your skin, removing dead skin follicles.   Follow by sinking into the luxurious bath of your choice.  Now is a good time to light the bath candles and play soothing music.  Plan on a 20 minute relaxation in the water.

If you do not have the Bath Gel Base, you may wish to substitute with Epsom salts
(1 cup) and baking soda ( 1 cup), adding your selected essential oils. Epsom salts stimulate gentle detoxification and relax muscles, while baking soda soothes and softens the skin.

     A Relaxing Bath

Lavender, clary sage and sandalwood essential oils create a deeply relaxing and sensual bath experience. the recommended amount is: 7 drops of sandalwood, 5 drops of lavender, and 2 drops of clary sage.  Or you can simply use 10-15 drops of your selected oil, lavender is a good choice, also.
